WHAT:

• Our CBR (Community Bible Reading) plan involves reading one chapter a day Monday through Saturday and then worshiping together on Sunday. Journaling is encouraged to engage both the heart and the mind. The final touch of each day’s reading is to share what impacted you most with your CBR group.
  
• For 2021, Fellowship Greenville has designed its own plan that will journey through the Psalms and Proverbs. We will also frequently return to the New Testament (Luke, Acts, Romans, among others). Full details can be found on the app or website. 

WHY:

• Psalm 1 gives us a negative example and a positive example of how to have a blessed life (a happy life the way God intended).
• You won’t have this blessed life if you follow the counsel of this world. If you walk in the advice of the wicked, stand in the path of sinners, or sit with the scoffers, you are missing out on the life God wants for you.
• You are blessed when your delight is in God’s words, and when you meditate on it day and night.
• Two-word pictures -- a rooted fruitful tree vs. chaff that blows away.

HOW:

We want to do our CBR reading:

• For engagement more than achievement
• In community more than alone
• In delight more than duty

A prayer from Psalm 1 for 2021:

Father, we want to be blessed and happy followers of Jesus. We don’t want to walk with the wicked, stand with sinners, or sit with scoffers. Rather, we want to delight and trust in your word, and meditate on it day and night, and meditate on it with others. 

Then we can be like strong oaks, like towering redwoods, planted by streams of water. Lead us to this, Lord, so we can prosper and share in the life You want for us -- not like blown-about chaff, but like rooted, fruited trees...

Holy Spirit, cause us to delight in Jesus the incarnate Word, and in Scripture the inspired word. Thank you that we have confidence that we will stand on the day of judgment because of Jesus. Thank you that you know us and love us. Make us into people who love each other and love your word. Amen.
