GLOBAL NEWS OPPORTUNITY TO PRAY: SOMALIA
"Church life in Somalia is nonexistent, and in recent years the dangers facing Christians appear to have worsened,” reported Open Doors, which ranked Somalia as the second-most difficult country in which to be a Christian in its 2024 World Watch List. Christians in Somalia, estimated to be only in the hundreds, can’t worship publicly.
Overall, only 0.03% of the world’s 26.24 million Somalis are evangelical Christians. Close to half live outside of Somalia. Two of the larger Somali population groups are in Ethiopia and Kenya. In both, TWR and its partners reach out in the Somali language. That includes Kenya's massive Kakuma refugee camp, which includes a large number of Somalis.
The closest thing Somali Christians may have to a church is the TWR program they listen to in secret on their radios, brought to them by shortwave from TWRs transmitter in Eswatini." (via: TWR)
Way to pray: Pray for believers who are isolated and unable to fellowship with other Christians. Pray for media ministries reaching Somali people around the world, and pray that more people would be able to access these and hear about the love of God.
MISSIONARY HIGHLIGHT: SHEPPARD
The Lord has given the Sheppards a special burden for the least-reached people groups of Liberia, especially the Manya. John Mark is working to translate and record the Bible in their language, along with teaching people to read and write in the mother tongue. Sara works with children, teens, and moms in their community, providing medical care, tutoring, daily meals, counseling, and discipleship. Check out the most recent newsletter here.
Way to Pray: John Mark and his team have recently completed the last revision of the New Testament translation. Praise God! Please pray that the Manya people who are hearing the word of God through dramatized audio programs would come to faith in Jesus. Pray for the Sheppards children and also the Liberian children who have become like family, that they would grow in their faith and knowledge of God’s Word.
